Gardening Update

I planted some "patio" tomato plants a while back on the southeast side of our house.  I will say that the "patio" plants have taken off.  These are over 5 feet tall.  Do "patio" plants get this big?

Our River House Fixer Upper - Week 62

The master bath is done!  Whew, that took a while.

This is how it started...

A tiny room with an awkward arrangement.

We went to work April of last year...tearing everything out.

In May (last year), we had the room re-plumbed and installed our new 6 foot tub.

The following month, the cement boards were installed for the new tile installation.

It was several months before we were able to get back to work on this bathroom. We were working hard on the other rooms.  But after the Christmas holidays, it was time to get started on the tile.

We purchased the vanities back in the early summer of 2017, thinking these would work perfectly, but they didn't.  Ending up selling these on Craigslist.  We then set about looking for a vanity that would work in this space.

Would not work, due to the room not being square.  Bummer!

While we were looking for a vanity, we went ahead and installed the light fixtures.

We finally found a vanity we liked.

Next, we needed a vanity top.   You would think for the price, that the top comes with the vanity.  Nope, it doesn't.

Next on the list was a mirror.   We needed a large mirror, at least 56 inches wide. We found plenty that big, but they were outrageously priced.  Could not believe it.  We shopped Lowes, Home Depot, bathroom specialty stores...and most were 350.00 upwards to over 1,000.00 bucks.

I was on a mission.  I was bound and determined to find a mirror that we liked that did not cost a fortune.  After many hours of researching.  I found one.  Kirkland's had a mirror, the size was right, it had beveled glass and looked okay.  Only problem, the frame was the wrong color.  No problem... I have plenty of practice with the paint brush.  And for the price...$59.99, are you kidding?  Yep no problem with the painting part.

And here it is... after 16 months...the master bath is completed!!!!!

Whew...that was a long project!!

Until next time...

SunDaze Update

Time is flying by!  And the captain has been working hard to get SunDaze in shape for some cruising fun.  We really would like to use the boat this summer for a few quick jaunts to either Ocracoke or Oriental, or even New Bern.  SunDaze now has new windows, a new galley faucet, and a new refrigerator.  The captain also decided to get rid of the openings in the bimini (cockpit hardtop).  The top had two openings that were covered with canvas and wasn't rain proof making for a wet cockpit during down pours.  The captain glassed in the openings and now we have a nice covering giving protection from sun and rain.

the two openings now covered and glassed in

New glassed over top

Inside, the boat is a mess.  Cushions will be cleaned and the teak is being sanded and poly coat added.  Floors too!

Then once cleaned, we will take her out for a few days.  It has been awhile and long overdue!

Yep, another week or so, and she should be in tip top shape and ready to go.

Until next time...

Enjoy!
