Soap for the Baby Shower

My daughter is expecting her second child in June.  Can't believe it is almost time for my new granddaughter to make her appearance!  Can't wait to see her!

We are planning a baby shower this weekend and my daughter asked me a while back if I would make soap as favors for her shower.  Since I had the day off from work, I decided today was a good day to get them done.

Ingredients for this soap are simple...goat milk base, oatmeal, vitamin E, organic honey and eucalyptus oil.

I heated the base in small batches, and once melted added the rest of the ingredients, then poured into shallow pan.

Then waited.  Did not take any pictures of the pan or what I did while I was waiting. 😁  Actually I was watching the water rise outside during the downpour we had today.

Once the soap hardened, I set about cutting the soap.  I wanted a shape that would be appropriate for the baby shower, so I used my heart shaped cookie cutter.

Made two batches like this one.  I think I ended up with about 42 soaps.  My daughter told me that would be "plenty".

Next step, adding lavender ribbon.  This baby girl has a lavender room waiting for her, so lavender ribbon it is.

My daughter has small clear bags that we will place the soap into, tie with another pretty little lavender ribbon, and then add a small tag with her handwritten note.  She will state what kind of soap...along with this statement...
"From my shower to yours...thanks for coming"

Isn't that the sweetest?

Until next time...

Enjoy!

Gardening Update

Several weeks ago, I shared my spring planter project with you.  Just wanted to show how well it has been doing.

This is what it looked liked then...

And this is what it looks like now....

We have been having arugula and baby kale for a couple of weeks.  Love fresh greens!

I spent most of yesterday transforming the south side of the house into what will hopefully be a mini garden.  It looked like this before.

Now it looks like this...

A few tomato plants, a cucumber plant, my salad planters and a few herbs.  Will get a couple more plants later.  This side of the house gets good morning and early afternoon sun.  Will see how the plants like it there.

Until next time...

Enjoy!

Our River House Fixer Upper - Week 51

The work on the house is now at snail pace speed.   Not because it is almost done, but because there are other things that are higher on the must get done list.  Sun Daze (the boat) is currently in the yard at the marina getting some much needed TLC, so therefore the captain is busy with her and until Sun Daze gets back in the water, I am afraid I will not get our master bathroom completed.  That's okay though...the boat needs some love too, and we want to be able to use her soon.

So no new updates on the bathroom.  We did however find a beautiful dining room set.  We have looking for some time and found a table and chairs we really liked at one of the furniture stores, but neither the captain or myself wanted to pay that much for a dining set.  It was however beautifully crafted by Amish craftsmen and worth every cent, just not what we were willing to pay.  So we set about looking for our "perfect" dining set at other places...in our free time.  I kept a lookout on Craigslist, at flea markets, thrift stores, etc.  And we found one.   Just what we wanted and at a great price.

The table expands with added leaf to accommodate eight chairs (which all eight were included) plus the seller wanted to get rid of a small sideboard.  We didn't need a sideboard, but it was such a lovely piece, we opted to keep it.

The question then was...where do we put it?   The only space that seemed logical was already occupied by the piece of furniture I had made for us a while back, in our middle room that we refer to as our hallway.  The pic below was during the holidays.

So we moved that smaller table and placed the sideboard there.  Then we put our little barn wood table in the living room.

Fits nicely in that corner of the room.  I think we are now done with furnishing the house.   We need some personal touches, but that will come with time.

Other than finishing the master bathroom, and some second coats of paint in a few places...the inside is done.

I will make a video soon to show the progression of this project (once the bath is completed).

Then it will be time to get to work on finishing the outside...deck, patio, porch, exterior lighting, landscaping, fencing....what were we thinking? 😄

Until next time...
